Is catnip toxic to cats?
Catnip is harmless for most cats when they sniff and play with it (iCatCare, Cats Protection). ASPCA still lists it as toxic to cats because it can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
How to serve it: a pinch now and then, on a toy or scratching post
Good to know: The effect comes from the scent and lasts only 5–15 minutes; some cats turn aggressive (CatWatch). About 70–80% of cats respond, kittens usually not before 3 months (iCatCare).
