Why only a time window?
Cats only ovulate after mating and often mate several times over a few days (Merck, International Cat Care). Merck gives 60 to 65 days of pregnancy and birth usually 64 to 66 days after breeding; International Cat Care says 63 to 65 days. That gives the window of day 60 to 66.
When to call your vet
- More than 1 to 4 hours between kittens (Merck).
- Straining for 20 to 30 minutes without a kitten, or crying out in pain (International Cat Care).
- Discolored or very bloody discharge before the first kitten (International Cat Care).
- If the window has passed and labor hasn’t started, call.
