Dog pregnancy calculator
Enter the date of the first breeding to see when the puppies are due. If your vet pinpointed ovulation, the date gets more precise.
Have your vet confirm and follow the pregnancy.
Why only a time window?
The breeding date isn’t the conception date: sperm can survive a week or longer, and the female often breeds before ovulation (Merck, AKC). From the first breeding it is therefore 58 to 72 days. If your vet pinpointed ovulation, it gets more precise: 63 days, plus or minus 1 to 2 (Cornell).
When to call your vet
- More than 2 hours between puppies (Cornell, AKC).
- Labor lasting more than 24 hours (AKC, Merck).
- Green discharge not followed right away by a puppy (Cornell).
- If the window has passed and labor hasn’t started, call (Merck).
The short answer
Dogs are pregnant for an average of 63 days, counted from ovulation (Cornell). Counted from the first breeding, it’s 58 to 72 days, because breeding and conception don’t have to happen on the same day (Merck). Example: first breeding on November 1, 2026 – the puppies are due between December 29 and January 12, 2027, most likely around January 3.
