Can guinea pigs eat carrots?
Merck advises small amounts of carrot only as a treat. Carrot tops, however, are a good choice (PDSA, Royal Veterinary College).
How to serve it: a small piece a few times a week (NC State); carrot tops more often
Good to know: Swiss welfare sheets (Swiss animal welfare society, Tierspital Zürich) list carrots as normal fresh food. The German TVT advises little root vegetable, and Merck’s chapter for vets advises against them entirely, so we decide cautiously.
Questions
Can guinea pigs eat carrots every day?
No, only now and then and in small amounts.
Can rabbits eat carrots?
Yes, but only a little. Carrots are high in sugar and only a treat (RSPCA, RWAF). Carrot tops, on the other hand, are a good choice (RSPCA).
