Can cats eat olives?
Cats Protection lists the olive tree (Olea europaea) as safe for cats. Brined olives are salty, though, and too much salt can poison cats (Pet Poison Helpline) – so a small piece at most.
How to serve it: pitted, rinsed, no stuffing, garlic or seasoning; just a small piece
Good to know: Cats Protection notes that even non-toxic plants can upset the stomach.
Questions
Can dogs eat olives?
Yes, but only a little. AKC says olives aren’t toxic to dogs and are fine in small amounts, ideally plain, pitted and unsalted. Brined olives are very salty, and too much salt harms dogs (AKC, ASPCA); pits can get stuck in the throat or gut (AKC).
