Can dogs eat asparagus?
AKC says asparagus isn’t toxic to dogs, but cooked asparagus is easier to chew. Still, AKC’s fruit and vegetable list puts it among the vegetables dogs should avoid (too tough raw, little benefit cooked); Dogs Trust says it’s usually fine in moderation.
How to serve it: cooked without butter, oil or sauce, in small pieces
Good to know: AKC says the fern-like foliage of garden asparagus is toxic to dogs and can cause vomiting, diarrhea and severe abdominal pain. ASPCA also lists ornamental asparagus fern houseplants as toxic; the berries in particular irritate the stomach and intestines (Pet Poison Helpline).
