Can dogs eat beets?
AKC says fresh beets, raw or cooked, are fine in small amounts as an occasional treat. They’re high in sugar and in oxalic acid, which can contribute to bladder and kidney stones, and can cause gas or diarrhea in some dogs (AKC).
How to serve it: fresh, peeled, raw or cooked, cut small, unseasoned; canned only with no salt or other additives
Good to know: If your dog has had bladder or kidney stones, check with your vet first (AKC). Red urine for 12 to 24 hours afterward is harmless; if it lasts longer, check with your vet (AKC).
