Can cockatiels eat dried fruit?
Yes, but only a little: cockatiels can eat dried fruit. The AAV’s cockatiel care sheet lists fresh or dried fruit as part of the diet. For dried cranberries, the AAV recommends a natural, unsulfured and unsweetened product. No bird source names raisins or dates specifically. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) mentions small pieces of fruit, the Merck Veterinary Manual recommends 5–10% fresh fruit for small birds such as cockatiels, and RSPCA Australia calls fruit a treat because of its sugar. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT), on the other hand, lists fruit as part of the daily diet, so we err on the side of caution.
How to serve it: unsulfured and unsweetened, a tiny piece
Good to know: The Merck Veterinary Manual describes raisins as a risk for dogs; we found no bird source saying the same for cockatiels.
