Enter the mating date to see when the kits are due.
Have your vet confirm and follow the pregnancy.
Why only a time window?
Rabbits are pregnant for about 31 to 33 days (Merck); the House Rabbit Society says 30 to 32, LMU Munich 29 to 35. Ovulation only happens 10 to 13 hours after mating (House Rabbit Society), so the mating date is what counts. Does with small litters carry a little longer (Merck).
When to call your vet
- No litter by around day 32: call your vet. After day 34 the kits are usually stillborn (Merck).
- Dull, not eating or breathing hard shortly before kindling: see your vet right away. It’s more common with the first litter (Merck).
- A kit seems stuck: see your vet right away (House Rabbit Society).
- No milk, no nest, or the kits aren’t getting fed after the birth: see your vet right away, don’t wait two days (House Rabbit Society).
The short answer
Rabbits are pregnant for about 31 to 33 days (Merck); the House Rabbit Society says 30 to 32. If there’s no litter by around day 32, call your vet (Merck). Example: mating on March 1, 2027 – the kits are most likely due on April 1 or 2, possibly from March 30 to April 3.
Questions
How long are rabbits pregnant?
About 31 to 33 days (Merck); the House Rabbit Society says 30 to 32 days. Does with small litters carry a little longer (Merck).
Pregnant or false pregnancy?
False pregnancy is common in rabbits, even without mating (Merck). It lasts 17 to 18 days (House Rabbit Society). If a doe builds a nest around day 14, the mating usually didn’t take (LMU Munich).
When can the vet confirm pregnancy?
By feeling the belly, best around day 12 after mating (Merck). In a study at LMU Munich, ultrasound worked from day 6.
When does she need a nest box?
Merck says day 28 to 29 after mating. A day or two before kindling she pulls fur and builds the nest (Merck).
Can she get pregnant again right away?
Yes, within hours of giving birth (RSPCA). Keep the buck separate around the birth, ideally where they can still see and smell each other (RSPCA). Recently neutered bucks can stay fertile for up to six weeks (RSPCA).
What should I feed a pregnant rabbit?
Discuss that with your vet. Portiopet doesn’t calculate amounts for pregnant rabbits.
