Can dogs eat spinach?
AKC says dogs can eat spinach, but it’s high in oxalic acid, which blocks calcium absorption. Kidney damage would take very large amounts, yet AKC still advises only small amounts now and then.
How to serve it: steamed, chopped, no salt, oil, onion or garlic
Good to know: PDSA also lists raw spinach, but AKC says raw spinach is hard for dogs to digest. If your dog has had kidney or bladder stones, check with your vet first (AKC).
Questions
Can cats eat spinach?
Yes, but only a little. Cats Protection lists spinach among the few vegetables you can feed your cat, if they’re keen. Battersea advises against spinach for cats with kidney or urinary problems – check with your vet first.
