Can dogs eat sweet potatoes?
AKC says cooked, peeled sweet potato is fine in moderation, but never give your dog a raw sweet potato. Raw sweet potato is hard to chew and can cause an intestinal blockage, and too much can mean excess vitamin A (AKC).
How to serve it: boiled or steamed, peeled, unseasoned, no butter or sugar
Good to know: AKC points to an FDA investigation into whether dog foods with legumes or potatoes (including sweet potatoes) among the main ingredients are linked to a heart muscle disease (DCM). A causal link has not been established (FDA, December 2022 update).
