Can chickens eat moldy bread?
No – toxic. Chickens should never eat moldy bread. UMaine Extension says never to let birds eat moldy feed, since toxins produced by molds cause serious harm to poultry. RSPCA Australia lists moldy produce among things chickens should never get, and UF/IFAS Extension’s rule of thumb: if food is moldy enough that you wouldn’t eat it yourself, don’t feed it to your chickens.
Good to know: Extension.org warns that rotting scraps can lead to botulism.
Did your chicken eat some?
If your hen ate something toxic or seems unwell, call your vet – the RSPCA says to always contact a vet if you’re concerned. Keep a sample of the feed (Merck Veterinary Manual).

- Tell your vet what your hen ate, how much and when.
