Can cockatiels eat chips?
Better not: cockatiels shouldn’t eat chips. The AAV’s cockatiel care sheet lists salt among things cockatiels must not get access to. The AAV also warns that salt poisoning can occur, so birds shouldn’t be fed highly salted foods. Purdue says salted foods should never be offered. The Merck Veterinary Manual advises against salty food too, and RSPCA Australia lists salt among things that could be dangerous.
Good to know: If your cockatiel got hold of salty food or seems unwell, the AAV says to get help from an avian vet immediately, even if you only suspect it.
