Can guinea pigs eat Swiss chard?
PDSA and the Royal Veterinary College list Swiss chard as a suitable vegetable, and the Swiss animal welfare society names it too. NC State rates it very high in oxalate, though, so rotate it in smaller amounts.
How to serve it: washed, rotated with other greens
Good to know: The University of Edinburgh counts chard among daily greens, while NC State advises smaller amounts because of the oxalate, so we err on the side of caution.
Questions
Can guinea pigs eat Swiss chard every day?
No, only now and then and in small amounts.
Can rabbits eat Swiss chard?
Better not. RWAF generally doesn’t recommend Swiss chard because of its oxalate content and its potential to upset digestion. The House Rabbit Society allows it in rotation with other greens, so we err on the side of caution.
