Can hamsters eat onions?
Better not: hamsters shouldn’t eat onions. The University of Minnesota says hamsters should never be fed onions. Woodgreen, the German Animal Welfare Federation and the Swiss animal welfare society (STS) also rule out onions, leeks and chives. Only PDSA lists onion as a suitable vegetable, so we err on the side of caution.
Good to know: If your hamster ate some and shows signs of poisoning or seems unwell, the RSPCA says to see your vet immediately.
