How much to feed a Cavapoo

A Cavapoo is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Size and weight vary a lot; in UK vet practices, adult Cavapoos had a median weight of about 20 lb (females 18.5 lb, males 21.6 lb). Here’s how much food that is per day – for the most accurate amount, use your own dog’s weight.

We found no standard and no club with size classes for the Cavapoo. These are median weights from UK vet practices (VetCompass, 2019 data).

In a Royal Veterinary College owner survey (2024, dogs up to 5 years old), Cavapoo owners reported obesity less often than Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owners.

Question 1 of 4

How much does your dog weigh?

Decimals help, e.g. 22.5. No pet scale? Weigh yourself, then again holding your pet.

A starting point – the scale has the final say. If your dog is ill, talk to your vet.

Cavapoo puppies

As an example we use an adult weight of 20 lb – how big your puppy gets depends on its parents. At 4 months, a puppy then weighs about 11.4 lb on the growth curve in the FEDIAF guidelines and needs about 1⅝ cups of dry food with 380 kcal/cup a day. For your puppy, calculate with its own age and weight.

Questions

How much should a Cavapoo eat per day?

A Cavapoo weighing 20 lb, spayed or neutered with normal activity, needs about 585 kcal a day. That’s about 1½ cups of dry food or 19.5 oz of wet food with the calories from the chart. Use the calculator above for your food.

How much does a Cavapoo weigh?

In UK vet practices, adult Cavapoos had a median weight of about 20 lb: males 21.6 lb, females 18.5 lb (VetCompass, 2019 data). Half the dogs weigh more, half weigh less.

My dog weighs more than this. Is that too much?

Not necessarily. Crossbreeds vary a lot in weight, depending on their parents. Your dog’s shape tells you more than the number: you should feel the ribs and see a waist from above. If in doubt, ask your vet.
