How much to feed a Goldendoodle
A Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. How heavy it gets depends on its size, from Petite (25 lb or less) to Standard (51 lb or more). Here’s how much food that is per day – for the most accurate amount, use your own dog’s weight.
Weight by size
- Petite
- ≤ 25 lb
- Mini
- 26–35 lb
- Medium
- 36–50 lb
- Standard
- ≥ 51 lb

The Goldendoodle Association of North America (GANA) sorts four sizes by height at the shoulder and gives typical weights in pounds. The feeding chart below runs from Mini to Medium (26 to 50 pounds); for a Petite or Standard, use your dog’s weight in the calculator.
The GANA standard says a Goldendoodle’s weight should be proportionate to its size, neither overweight nor underweight.
Feeding chart by weight
Example: dry food with 380 kcal/cup, wet food with 30 kcal/oz.
| Weight | kcal/day | Dry | Wet |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 lb | 713 | 1⅞ cups | 23.8 oz |
| 35 lb | 891 | 2⅜ cups | 29.7 oz |
| 40 lb | 985 | 2⅝ cups | 32.8 oz |
| 50 lb | 1,164 | 3⅛ cups | 38.8 oz |
For spayed or neutered dogs with normal activity. Intact dogs need about 12% more. The amounts only apply to food with exactly these calories; use the calculator below for yours.
Calculate with your food
How much does your dog weigh?
Decimals help, e.g. 22.5. No pet scale? Weigh yourself, then again holding your pet.
A starting point – the scale has the final say. If your dog is ill, talk to your vet.
Goldendoodle puppies
As an example we use an adult weight of 37 lb – how big your puppy gets depends on its parents. At 4 months, a puppy then weighs about 19.6 lb on the growth curve in the FEDIAF guidelines and needs about 2½ cups of dry food with 380 kcal/cup a day. For your puppy, calculate with its own age and weight.
Questions
How much should a Goldendoodle eat per day?
A Goldendoodle weighing 37 lb, spayed or neutered with normal activity, needs about 929 kcal a day. That’s about 2½ cups of dry food or 31.0 oz of wet food with the calories from the chart. Use the calculator above for your food.
How much does a Goldendoodle weigh?
It depends on the size. GANA gives typical weights by size: Petite 25 pounds or less, Mini 26 to 35, Medium 36 to 50, Standard 51 pounds or more. GANA says height is what really determines size, since weights can fluctuate.
My dog weighs more than this. Is that too much?
Not necessarily. Crossbreeds vary a lot in weight, depending on their parents. Your dog’s shape tells you more than the number: you should feel the ribs and see a waist from above. If in doubt, ask your vet.
