How much to feed a Samoyed: feeding chart by weight
A Samoyed usually weighs 35–65 lb. Here’s how much to feed per day, a feeding chart by weight and activity, and a puppy weight chart.
How much should a Samoyed eat per day?
An adult Samoyed weighing 35–65 lb eats about 2⅜–3¾ cups (238–378 g) of dry food a day if spayed or neutered with normal activity – that’s 891–1,417 kcal.
That’s for food with 380 kcal/cup (3,750 kcal/kg), using 1.6 × 70 × (weight in kg)^0.75 kcal from the Merck Veterinary Manual. Calculate with your own food right below.

Samoyed feeding tips
What the sources say about feeding this breed. For health questions, talk to your vet.
- How much exercise? Sources differ
Samoyeds need some daily exercise, says the AKC, and enjoy play sessions in a safely fenced yard or long walks on leash – they have a strong urge to run off and roam. The Royal Kennel Club, on the other hand, lists more than two hours a day. Choose the column by how much yours actually moves.
- Neither clumsy nor racy
The AKC standard says a Samoyed should never be so heavy as to appear clumsy nor so light as to appear racy; weight should be in proportion to height. Body shape tells you better than the number whether yours fits.
- Treats count
The AKC also advises watching a Samoyed’s calories and weight: too many treats can lead to obesity. Count everything your dog gets between meals as part of the daily amount.
- Measured meals
For adult dogs, the Merck Veterinary Manual recommends measured meals, such as two a day at set times. Most dogs get too heavy when food is left out all day.
