How much to feed an American Staffordshire Terrier: weight and feeding chart
An American Staffordshire Terrier usually weighs 40–70 lb. Here’s how much to feed per day, a feeding chart by weight and activity, and a puppy weight chart.
How much should an American Staffordshire Terrier eat per day?
An adult American Staffordshire Terrier weighing 40–70 lb eats about 2⅝–4 cups (263–399 g) of dry food a day if spayed or neutered with normal activity – that’s 985–1,498 kcal.
That’s for food with 380 kcal/cup (3,750 kcal/kg), using 1.6 × 70 × (weight in kg)^0.75 kcal from the Merck Veterinary Manual. Calculate with your own food right below.

American Staffordshire Terrier feeding tips
What the sources say about feeding this breed. For health questions, talk to your vet.
- Lots of exercise, ideally together
An athletic, energetic dog, the American Staffordshire Terrier requires a lot of exercise, says the AKC. Leaving the dog out in the yard all day is not the right approach, though; long play sessions together are better, and many AmStaffs enjoy canine sports such as obedience or agility. If yours gets that, use the “normal” or “very active” column – the scale decides.
- Treats count
The AKC also advises watching an AmStaff’s calories and weight: too many treats can lead to obesity. Count everything your dog gets between meals as part of the daily amount.
- Measured meals
For adult dogs, the Merck Veterinary Manual recommends measured meals, such as two a day at set times. Most dogs get too heavy when food is left out all day.
