Staffordshire Bull Terrier feeding tips
What the sources say about feeding this breed. For health questions, talk to your vet.
- Regular exercise
The Stafford needs regular exercise to stay mentally and physically fit, says the AKC – chasing a ball, a long hike, or running alongside a bike or jogger, though the AKC recommends that only after 18 months and not in humid or very warm weather. The Royal Kennel Club lists up to an hour a day. Choose the column by how much yours actually moves.
- Not clearly more often overweight
In a VetCompass study (RVC, 2021), Staffordshire Bull Terriers were not significantly more likely to be overweight than crossbreeds. Treats still count: too many can cause obesity, says the AKC, so look for a low-calorie option – and include them in the daily amount.
- Measured meals
For adult dogs, the Merck Veterinary Manual recommends measured meals, such as two a day at set times. Most dogs get too heavy when food is left out all day.
