Can budgies eat mealworms?
Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat mealworms. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists insects as a protein food for budgies, usually once a week in small amounts. While breeding, raising chicks and molting, budgies need animal and plant protein every day, the STS says. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT), however, says animal protein can be given only during molting, and only a little.
How to serve it: one or two
Good to know: None of our sources names mealworms specifically; they talk about insects in general.
