Can budgies eat meat?
Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat meat. Purdue calls lean meat an excellent protein source that many parrots like, with meat and dairy together making up about 5% of the diet. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) says budgies can get animal protein only during molting, and only a little.
How to serve it: lean, cooked, unseasoned, a tiny piece
Good to know: The German Animal Welfare Federation lists table scraps as unsuitable, and ham or sausage is salty, which the AAV says birds should avoid.
