Can budgies eat apricots?
Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat apricots. UC Davis includes apricots on its fruit list, and RSPCA Australia names them among fruits that are digested slowly. Always remove the pit.
How to serve it: pitted, a small piece
Good to know: Remove the seeds or pit first – according to the AAV, they contain a cyanide compound and should never be fed to pet birds. The German Animal Welfare Federation says to offer fruit only in small amounts because of its sugar, and RSPCA Australia calls fruit a treat. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT), on the other hand, lists fruit as part of the daily diet, so we err on the side of caution.
