Can hamsters eat sunflower seeds?
Yes, but only a little: hamsters can eat sunflower seeds. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) says sunflower and pumpkin seeds work as a treat, but only in very small amounts. Because they are very high in fat, the TVT says they don’t belong in the everyday seed mix, and the German Animal Welfare Federation calls sunflower seeds a rare treat.
How to serve it: unsalted, only a very few (TVT)
Good to know: The Merck Veterinary Manual advises limiting seeds, since hamsters may eat them instead of their balanced pellets.
