Small Munsterlander feeding tips
What the sources say about feeding this breed. For health questions, talk to your vet.
- A hunting dog that needs to move
The Small Munsterlander is a versatile hunting breed with a high activity level and needs daily exercise and stimulation, says the AKC. If you don’t hunt with yours, give him other ways to tire himself out, such as a run or play in a fenced area – and supervise him outdoors, since his instinct is to hunt. In hunting season the “very active” column may fit, in quieter weeks one column less – the scale decides.
- Puppies: plan the meals
How often to feed your puppy, and the best adult diet later on, is best worked out with your vet and/or breeder, says the AKC. Weigh your puppy every week and compare with the puppy weight chart.
- Built to work
The FCI breed standard calls for a strong and harmonious build of medium size, and the overall appearance must always show the breed’s utility as a hunting dog. Body shape tells you better than the number whether yours fits.
- Measured meals
For adult dogs, the Merck Veterinary Manual recommends measured meals, such as two a day at set times. Most dogs get too heavy when food is left out all day.
