Can budgies drink coffee?
No – toxic. Budgies should never drink coffee. The AAV says caffeine is toxic to birds. RSPCA Australia calls coffee and tea dangerous, and Merck and Purdue advise against caffeinated drinks.
Good to know: The AAV does suggest caffeine-free herbal tea made with bird-safe herbs such as chamomile or mint, brewed weak and cooled completely.
Did your budgie drink some?
If your budgie drank some or seems unwell, the AAV says to get help from an avian vet immediately, even if you only suspect it.
- ASPCA Animal Poison Control: (888) 426-4435 (a fee may apply)
- Tell your vet what your budgie drank, how much and when.
