Can budgies eat sunflower seeds?
Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat sunflower seeds. The Merck Veterinary Manual says many parrots prefer sunflower seeds, which are low in calcium and protein and high in fat. RSPCA Australia puts their fat content at 49%.
How to serve it: just a few, as a treat
Good to know: The German Animal Welfare Federation says fatty seeds such as hemp should be fed sparingly; it doesn’t mention sunflower seeds specifically.
