Can cats eat speculoos cookies?

Better not

Better not: cats shouldn’t eat speculoos cookies. Germany’s Federal Chamber of Veterinarians says baked goods have too much sugar and fat for cats. The spices aren’t the main issue: serious toxicity is very unlikely if a cat eats food with nutmeg in it (Pet Poison Helpline).

Good to know: Chocolate-coated speculoos are toxic (Cats Protection), and almonds can make cats unwell. Cloves contain eugenol, which can cause liver toxicity in cats, though the small amounts in food usually aren’t toxic (Pet Poison Helpline). No expert source covers speculoos by name; this applies to baked goods and their ingredients.

Questions

My cat ate speculoos. What should I do?

Check the package and note how much she ate. If there was chocolate, call your vet or an emergency vet clinic right away, even if your cat seems fine. Otherwise call your vet if she vomits or gets diarrhea.
