Can degus eat carrots?
Yes, but only a little: degus can eat carrots. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) lists carrots among vegetables for winter in small amounts. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists them among fresh foods, and the Zurich animal welfare society (Zürcher Tierschutz) among foods for occasional feeding. The RSPCA says carrots can be high in sugar, so they should only be given in very small pieces as an occasional treat, and PDSA lists them for only once a month because of the sugar.
How to serve it: a very small piece, rarely (RSPCA, PDSA)
Good to know: The TVT says overly hard dried vegetable pieces are unsuitable.
