Can degus eat dried fruit?

Better not: degus shouldn’t eat dried fruit. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) says a degu food mix must not contain dried fruit, molasses or other added sugar. The RSPCA says chinchilla mixes that contain dried fruit aren’t suitable for degus. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) says degus should not be given fruit at all, and the Zurich animal welfare society (Zürcher Tierschutz) lists fruit among foods degus should never have.

Good to know: The STS says it’s worth taking a close look at the ingredients of any ready-made mix.
