Can dogs eat chocolate?

Toxic

Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine (methylxanthines), which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors and seizures. The darker the chocolate, the greater the risk; cocoa powder and baking chocolate are the most dangerous.

Good to know: White chocolate isn't safe either: little theobromine but lots of fat (AKC: pancreatitis risk). Cocoa bean hull mulch can also poison dogs (Merck).
