Can rats eat avocado?
No – toxic. Rats should never eat avocado. The Merck Veterinary Manual names rats among the animals that are susceptible to illness after eating avocado. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists avocado as poisonous or dangerous, says the pit and skin contain toxins, and advises leaving it out entirely. RSPCA Australia counts avocado as potentially harmful.
Did your rat eat some?
Rats can’t vomit, so the RSPCA warns that even a small amount of something harmful can kill them. If you’re worried your rat has come into contact with anything harmful, the RSPCA says to contact your vet immediately.
