Can budgies eat cherries?
Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat cherries. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists cherries as fruit for budgies. The pit has to come out: according to the AAV, the pits and seeds of stone fruit contain a cyanide compound.
How to serve it: pitted, a small piece
Good to know: Remove the seeds or pit first – according to the AAV, they contain a cyanide compound and should never be fed to pet birds. The German Animal Welfare Federation says to offer fruit only in small amounts because of its sugar, and RSPCA Australia calls fruit a treat. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT), on the other hand, lists fruit as part of the daily diet, so we err on the side of caution.
