Can budgies eat peanuts?

Better not

Better not: budgies shouldn’t eat peanuts. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) says budgie food shouldn’t contain peanuts because they are very fatty and often contaminated with mold spores. NC State warns that moldy peanuts can contain aflatoxin, and birds are much more sensitive to it than people.

Good to know: Merck notes that improperly stored peanuts in the shell can grow mold inside. The RSPCA mentions peanut butter as a trick when switching a parrot’s diet and dabbed on pine cones for enrichment, and Purdue lists it as an easy food for sick birds.
