Can chinchillas eat oats?
Better not: chinchillas shouldn’t eat oats. PDSA lists traditional rolled oats and a small piece of shredded wheat among the treats its vets suggest. Woodgreen says to give both sparingly because they can cause gas, and Purdue lists grains among commonly used treats. Merck, however, advises avoiding grains, and NC State advises against bread and cereals, so we err on the side of caution.
Good to know: For shredded wheat, PDSA suggests a piece about the size of a 5p coin, which is about the size of a US dime.
