Can chinchillas eat apples?
Better not: chinchillas shouldn’t eat apples. PDSA says no to apples because they’re likely to upset a chinchilla’s stomach. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) rules out fruit entirely. Merck, on the other hand, allows an occasional apple slice, and the University of Minnesota very occasionally, so we err on the side of caution.
Good to know: Apple branches for gnawing are fine, though (PDSA). As an occasional treat, the TVT suggests dried rose hips.
Better choices, for example
