Can chinchillas eat bananas?

Better not: chinchillas shouldn’t eat bananas. Chinchillas will happily eat banana, but PDSA says it’s very high in sugar and can upset their stomach, so it’s best avoided. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) also rules out fruit. The University of Minnesota, on the other hand, mentions banana as a very occasional treat, so we err on the side of caution.

Good to know: As an occasional treat, the TVT suggests dried rose hips instead.
