Can chinchillas eat rabbit food?

Better not: chinchillas shouldn’t eat rabbit food. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) says chinchillas don’t tolerate commercial feeds made for other rodents or rabbits. Merck notes that guinea pig and rabbit pellets have been used successfully, but says pellets made specifically for chinchillas should come first, so we err on the side of caution.

Good to know: PDSA advises against muesli-style seed mixes because chinchillas pick out their favorite bits.
