Can chinchillas eat sunflower seeds?

Better not: chinchillas shouldn’t eat sunflower seeds. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) says chinchillas don’t tolerate sunflower seeds. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) advises against them too. Blue Cross says they’re too high in fat, and Merck and the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) advise against seeds too. Woodgreen says to avoid them or give only a few, so we err on the side of caution.
