Can rats eat beans?
Yes, but only cooked and a little: rats can eat beans. RSPCA Australia lists green beans among daily vegetables. The PDSA names beans among occasional treats, and the RSPCA’s NextGen site counts them as protein-packed treats. The University of Minnesota mentions cooked beans, and the Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists beans cooked.
How to serve it: cooked (STS, University of Minnesota), as a small treat
Good to know: The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists raw beans as poisonous or dangerous. Rats can’t vomit, so the RSPCA warns that even a small amount of something harmful can kill them. If you’re worried your rat has come into contact with anything harmful, the RSPCA says to contact your vet immediately.
