Can budgies eat melon?

Only a little

Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat melon. The Merck Veterinary Manual lists cantaloupe among vitamin A–rich fruits you can offer in smaller amounts. RSPCA Australia prefers fruits that are digested slowly and names watermelon as an example of the opposite.

How to serve it: rind and seeds removed, a small piece

Good to know: We found no source on watermelon seeds or rind. The German Animal Welfare Federation says to offer fruit only in small amounts because of its sugar, and RSPCA Australia calls fruit a treat. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT), on the other hand, lists fruit as part of the daily diet, so we err on the side of caution.
