Can budgies eat strawberries?
Yes, but only a little: budgies can eat strawberries. If you offer fruit, the German Animal Welfare Federation says berries are a good choice because they contain less fruit sugar. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) and UC Davis also list berries. None of our sources names strawberries, raspberries or blackberries specifically.
How to serve it: washed, one berry or a small piece
Good to know: Only offer wild berries you know for sure – the RSPCA warns that some native berries are poisonous. The German Animal Welfare Federation says to offer fruit only in small amounts because of its sugar, and RSPCA Australia calls fruit a treat. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT), on the other hand, lists fruit as part of the daily diet, so we err on the side of caution.
