Can degus eat eggs?

Better not: degus shouldn’t eat eggs. None of the degu sources mentions eggs, cheese or yogurt, but the Zurich animal welfare society calls degus strict herbivores. Germany’s Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare (TVT) says the same, and PDSA says they eat only plant material. PDSA also says to avoid any human food scraps.
