Can rats eat peanut butter?

Better not: rats shouldn’t eat peanut butter. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) lists peanut butter under “poisonous or dangerous” because of the choking risk, since rats can’t vomit. RSPCA Australia also advises against feeding sticky foods that could be a choking hazard. So both warn about choking, not poison.

Good to know: Rats can’t vomit, so the RSPCA warns that even a small amount of something harmful can kill them. If you’re worried your rat has come into contact with anything harmful, the RSPCA says to contact your vet immediately.
