Can chinchillas eat yogurt drops?
Better not: chinchillas shouldn’t eat yogurt drops. NC State advises against yogurt drops and other sugary commercial treats. Blue Cross says such treats are often high in sugar and unnecessary, PDSA says most store-bought chinchilla treats aren’t suitable, and Woodgreen warns against colorful chew sticks. The Swiss animal welfare society (STS) says sweet food can cause life-threatening digestive problems.
Good to know: PDSA says to keep treats to a minimum and ideally dried – hide them in the hay so your chinchilla can forage for them. If you suspect your chinchilla is in pain, ill or injured, the RSPCA says to see a vet immediately. NC State adds that a chinchilla not eating for more than 12 hours is always an emergency.
